Tap Tap Superhero .... Episode Eight

Messing around with Evelyn overshadowed the time, for Tony was running late.  He had exactly 30 minutes to shit, shower and shave and get to work.  In an instant Tony was walking out of her apartment smelling like a rose.  Taking his cane and heading to the stairs, he could smell the faint homeless odor of the hall encounter this morning. Running out of the apartment building was right on time.  Todd, his trusty guy Friday was waiting with the car. Tony didn't need to work but did anyway to obtain a sense of self-worth.

His parents naturally passed away years ago, within weeks of each other.  Being the Chief of Police, Tony's father was a self-made millionare and a pillar in the community.  Numerous other cities came to observe and even pattern themselves after Chief Anthony Lopez, Sr's policy administration on how to run Public Safety if a medium size city.  Even some large cities with encompassing metropolitan areas wanted a piece of his vision.  Crime had been at a all-time low during his tenure, that ended five years ago with his death.  Crime was on the rise again.

Many of Tony's friends have always tried to convince him to put his hat in the ring for Chief.  It had always been a pipe dream since his teen years.  Was now the right time?

"Mr. Tony, running late are we?"  Todd inquired. Todd was a small man in statue but had the look of an Italian Mafioso.  He was a tall as he was wide.  Dark hair and a pizza making moustache.  He and Tony reconnected two years ago just as his sight was taking a swing for the worse.  They were in the same medical building of Tony's ocular specialist when they ran into each other.  After catching up, they both determined a symbionic relationship would ensue.  Todd a driving job and Tony a driver.  Todd became almost like family, actually living in the house with Tony.

It was nice to get into a cool car.  Even though it was morning, the searing sun was already baking the city neighborhoods.  It was predicted another record-setting hot-as-shit summer.

Arriving at Police Headquarters, Tony was not ready to exit the car.  'Fuck, it was hot.' he painfully thought. "The heat always brings out the crazies.  Beat cops will have their hands full today. I'll be working late tonight.  So, just wait for my text. What do you have going on today Todd?"

"I'm headed to my mom's house to replace a leaky kitchen faucet and hopefully mow her grass before it gets too hot.  It's always nice to stop by and see mom.  She does ask about you all the time.  We need to both go by and visit one day."

"Maybe this weekend.  I'm off and Evelyn is working overtime, so I'll be free."

"Alright boss, have a great day and be safe." Todd said as Tony left the car.

Tony was dreading today, for it was Friday.  Meetings, meetings and more meetings.  And after meetings comes paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork.  What a vicious  circle.
